After an explosive qualifier, two teams have qualified to ESL One Fall and will compete with some of the best teams in the world. The qualifier featured an eight-team double-elimination bracket with the top two teams qualifying for the main event. Congratulations to Team Empire and Creepwave!
Team Empire placed first in the qualifier and was certainly the best team present. Though they’ve been somewhat lackluster in the Eastern European scene as of late, the team recently had a resurgence in the EEU TI10 qualifiers where they were one game away from qualifying to the main event. Their roster was slightly altered for this event, but rising star and mid player Gleb "depressed kid" Zyryanov was crucial to their success as he was in the qualifier.
You may recognize Creepwave from the Western European DPC. The team competed in season one’s WEU where they placed third and were just shy of qualifying for the Upper Division in a three-way tiebreaker. The team reformed around some of the original players including Remco "Crystallis" Arets and Ammar "ATF" Assaf who played in the DPC at the age of 15. The team also brought in a new mid player Bozhidar “hansha” Georgiev Bogdanov who has been incredibly impressive on Invoker, Templar Assassin, and Puck.
Format and Invited Teams of ESL One Fall
ESL revealed that the format of the event will be two groups of six teams. Each group will go through a single round-robin of best-of-twos. The top two teams from each group will move to the upper bracket of the playoffs, third and fourth to the lower bracket, and the bottom two teams will be eliminated. Playoffs will be a standard double-elimination bracket.
So far, ESL has revealed five of the ten direct invites. These teams are Alliance, Team Liquid, Team Spirit, T1, and Thunder Predator. This will be one of our last chances to see some international competition before the best 18 teams from around the world gather at Bucharest in October for The International 10.
Tune in to the ESL One Fall Group Stage starting on August 21.
