T1 keeps SEA hopes alive at the WePlay AniMajor

By Tom CockramJune 12, 2021
Another day of the WePlay AniMajor has come and gone, with more teams sent home and our upper bracket finalists set.
T1 now carry the hopes of the Southeast Asia region on their backs as they managed to beat Quincy Crew 2-1 in the final series of the day. T1 have got to be pleased with the result as top three and potentially more is not a bad effort. T1 is an organization with strong results in other games but has never managed a good result at a Valve event. At the Singapore Major, they went home in 15th place!
Looking ahead, they’ll need to make sure they lock the front door to Roshan against PSG.LGD.
PSG.LGD managed to take down the anime heroes, Nigma, in yet another three-game series, sending the EU team down to the lower bracket.
The winner of the T1 versus PSG.LGD series will secure themselves a top-two finish at the Major guarantee we will see at least one different finalist from the Singapore Major.
Nigma is still fighting for a direct invite to The International 10 and will have to make a lower bracket run as they must get a top-two finish to get themselves to Stockholm. Nigma will face Evil Geniuses, who took down the other SEA team, TNC Predator, in another three-game series. Evil Geniuses weren’t phased in their series against TNC as the TNC team finally managed to score a kill on Daryl Koh "iceiceice" Pei Xiang, who had this brilliant reaction to the death.
Quincy Crew will face Vici Gaming in an elimination match. Vici Gaming managed to beat Team Spirit 2-0 in the only series today that didn’t require all of the maps to determine the winner. Hopefully, we can see more of Team Spirit as they certainly have the running down. For Team Spirit, this event has to be seen as a success. They managed to finish higher than the winner of the East European DPC, Virtus.pro, securing a 7-8th finish. Remember, this team had to play a best-of-one tiebreaker with Team Liquid to make it out of the group stage. However, they will have to recharge and go again in the regional Qualifiers.
Overall, the Playoff games have been great, but the talent has also been fantastic. This highlight from Shannon "SUNSfan" Scotten and Troels Lyngholt "syndereN" Nielsen was hilarious as they debated whether the one kill TNC had was deceiving or not, and syndereN started to lose control.
Tune in tomorrow, June 12, at 5 a.m ET / 3 a.m. PT for the next knockout match: Vici Gaming versus Quincy Crew.
