With the DPC’s second season underway, there are plenty of hype matchups to watch in the first week. With a brand new patch that’s only a few days old, it’ll be interesting to watch what heroes the teams prioritize and how the meta will develop over time. With only seven matches being played per team, every match is crucial. Teams haven’t had much time to adjust to the new patch so they’ll need to find what works for them quickly.
Right out the gate, CIS begins with the only two teams from the region who attended the Singapore Major. Virtus.pro has dominated the region for a long time but had a very lackluster performance at the Major. Most were expecting them to go much farther than they did, so we’ll see how they bounce back from this performance.
As for ASM Gambit, they had a solid performance in the very competitive Wild Card. They were just a Bo1 from advancing to the group stage but were unable to clench that last game. Nonetheless, the team had a solid performance against some big names. The first match of the season, this series is a must-watch.
Team Spirit had a very up and down first season. The team faced a roster change mid-season, lost to the two bottom teams in the division, then trounced both Na’Vi and ASM Gambit. Unfortunately, they were just shy of attending the Major after dropping a tiebreaker to ASM Gambit. Team Spirit has looked great in some online tier two tournaments, playing against the likes of Vikin.gg, High Coast Esports, and HellRaisers. An important match so early on in the season, this is a pivotal series.
Team Spirit vs. AS Monaco Gambit
This is a redemption match for Team Spirit. As mentioned before, ASM Gambit defeated Spirit in a tiebreaker in order to attend the Major. Despite making roster changes mid-season that seemed to greatly improve their performance, Spirit had to revert to their old roster for the tiebreak, as they exceeded the number of series that they could use a substitute in. That tiebreaker was the only time that Spirit had lost against ASM Gambit, as the teams had played several times in the past under the tag Live to Win. Though it may have been more exciting to see this rematch later in the season, Spirit is certainly hungry for revenge this time around.
