Beyond the Summit confirmed the four direct invites for the North America Dota Pro Circuit Upper Division on January 3.
These four teams are half of the Upper Division slots. The additional four, as well as the eight Lower Division placements, will be determined during a series of Open and Closed Qualifiers this coming week.
Open Qualifiers will kick off on January 5, with a second qualifier on the 6th. Successful teams will then compete in a Closed Qualifier January 7-10, to determine the remaining slots.
We've seen a number of new North American stacks start to pop up, including:
The team marks the return of Zakari "Zfreek" Freedman. Once hailed as a top support player, Zfreek last played in Europe under the OG.Seed banner. His return to North America is most welcome.
Zfreek will compete with Lil Nick — a player this author is most familiar within the context of streams with Jake "SirActionSlacks" Kanner, "papatooty," Jaron "monkeys-forever" Clinton and Ilyas "Steel-_-Borco" Kaukenov, who is a Kazakh player.
We've also got our eyes on this stack:
When we interviewed Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek in June 2020
, he was competing with Ninjas in Pyjamas. The move to North America seems well-timed to take advantage of the vacuum of prominent rosters that exist in the region. He will compete with David "MoonMeander" Tan, Enzo "Timado" Gianoli O'Connor, Kim "DuBu" Doo-young, and Jonathan Bryle "Bryle" Santos De Guia.
There are sure to be dozens more NA stacks popping up in the next 36 hours. We'll follow all of the qualifier action later this week and let you know which teams gel, which have the potential to upset the direct invites, and which teams have a long road ahead.
