Virtus.pro wins EPIC League Division 1

By Matt DixonDecember 13, 2020
Virtus.pro’s new roster, the freshly promoted VP.Prodigy squad are the champions of EPIC League’s Division 1. They earned their victory after a close 3-2 grand final series against OG. VP powered through the group stage, finishing top of the group stage with an impressive 7-2 record before progressing through the playoffs; going undefeated even against strong opponents Team Secret and Vikin.gg. Their victory shows they well and truly deserved their upgrade from the sub-roster, and they take home $200,000.
Virtus.pro’s victory over OG show that experience isn’t everything – their players are all aged between 18 and 20 years old. Despite being relatively new to the pro scene, their performance in overcoming some of the most seasoned veterans of the scene is quite an achievement, especially for captain Vitalie "Save-" Melnic who was able to stand up to OG’s Johan “N0tail” Sundstein’s captaining in both drafting and shot-calling alike. Save- also got to show off his skills in a way captains rarely do. His Rubick in games two and four were the kind of performances Rubick players dream of; stealing Enigma’s Black Hole time and time again across both games turned several fights for VP.
OG’s second-place finish was also a commendable effort. After a rough group stage, they left the tiebreakers as the bottom seed of the playoffs. Even so, they powered their way through to the grand final, even claiming a 3:0 victory over Vikin.gg in a rare lower bracket best-of-three. As always, OG fought to the final moments of the final game; at one point it even looked like they might hold on even as mega creeps tore apart their ancient. A huge RP onto VP’s cores by Sébastien “Ceb” Debs, followed up by a skewer into their fountain was the hail-Mary play that could have turned an impossible game. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Virtus.pro managed to force down OG’s Ancient.
