China Dota PIT S4: Vici and LGD have momentum

By Kenneth WilliamsDecember 6, 2020
After three days of round-robin competition, the playoff bracket for OGA Dota PIT Season 4: China has been determined. Dueling flagships Vici Gaming and PSG.LGD have both secured a bye after going undefeated in their respective groups. LGD still carries some momentum from their back-to-back CDA-FDC Pro Championships in November. Vici is on the back foot; their last two results have been off the podium. With $150,000 on the line, both teams have plenty to win at OGA Dota PIT: S4 China.
In addition to Vici, Group A hosted both EHOME and Royal Never Give Up. EHOME certainly has the talent to sneak wins with Pan “Fade” Yi and Guo “Xm” Hongcheng, but the squad is still chasing their first championship. They did take a game over Vici in groups, so an upset is still possible. As for RNG, Xie "Super" Junhao’s gang is struggling to keep up. Their only victory was over Team MagMa, who will not be advancing. Vici, EHOME, and RNG will appear in the playoffs.
Group B was similarly decisive. Super squad Elephant reenacted their CD2 Pro Cup S2 grand finals performance by 2:0-ing Team Aster, but their games against LGD looked shaky from the start. LGD’s 2:0 took a combined 46 minutes. Invictus Gaming were the only roster to take a game off Xu “fy” Linsen’s dream team, but it wasn’t enough to escape an early exit. LGD, Elephant, and Aster will advance.

The matches to watch

The intimate six-team playoffs mean a very short bracket, so every game of every series matters a lot. The inaugural match will be between EHOME and Aster, two teams eager to prove themselves. EHOME has the old LGD lineup pedigree, but the squad sometimes plays too close to the meta. Aster wants to prove that their insane upsets at CDA-FDC S2 weren’t flukes, and EHOME is the perfect buildup for PSG.LGD.
Elephant against Royal Never Give Up is another curious case; Elephant’s debut at CDA-FDC S1 was marked by an instant loss to RNG that was repeated in the upper bracket. These teams have history, a remarkable feat considering Elephant has existed for about a month. Vici hasn’t lost to Elephant yet or to RNG since May. Captain Ding “Dy” Cong must be feeling confident.
The first match will be EHOME against Team Aster on December 7 at midnight CT.
