Aster upset LGD, Vici in CD2 Pro Cup Season 2 groups

China Dota2 Pro Cup S2‘s group stage is well underway, with just three more days of competition before the playoffs bracket is determined. Despite the attendance of China’s heaviest hitters, Team Aster have already secured an unlikely spot in the upper bracket. Their 4-2 record was boosted by a pair of extreme back-to-back upsets over Vici Gaming and PSG.LGD. Vici was previously undefeated, and LGD are now on a course for the lower bracket.
Team Aster was considered a victim of the Chinese shuffle earlier this season. They’ve undergone seven roster swaps in 2020 alone. The loss of Song "Sccc" Chun was considered a major blow to the team’s strength, though the addition of former Royal Never Give Up carry Du “Monet” Peng has helped retain some star power. Now with a pair of upsets and a guaranteed berth, Aster’s momentum could carry the underdogs to a podium finish.

Every new squad’s dream: upset LGD

Aster sported a 2-2 record heading into their series against LGD early on the 19th. LGD were the heavy favorites, and the match of the day was solidly Elephant vs EHOME. What was supposed to be an easy win for China’s elite went south right from the draft. LGD let Drow through as the 10th pick, where Monet maintained his perfect record thanks to clutch initiations by Lin "Xxs" Jing.
Game two was equally decisive. Aster took a huge risk drafting Drow in the first phase, but a very tanky offlane provided a frontline for both Monet and Liu "DD斩首" Yuhao Godlike Leshrac. Wang “Ame” Chunyu’s Spectre failed to take over the late midgame, and GG was called in just under 35 minutes.

And Vici for the road

Their best-of-three against Vici was the very first match of the 20th. Hot off their 2:0 over LGD, Vici wisely banned Drow Ranger in the second phase. Monet was forced onto Spectre, where he accumulated 10 kills and 659 GPM while DD斩首 ran over the midgame.
Game three was a dominant turnaround for Aster yet again, with strong lanes being converted to an early victory via clever smoke ganks. Xxs calling out Ye "BoBoKa" Zhibiao’s forward positioning snowballed into Barracks and the eventual GG call, giving Aster consecutive upsets against the two strongest teams in the region.

More success at CDA-FDC

Excellent team fights and solid decision-making across the roster have made Team Aster the envy of China's tier 2 scene, but their success isn’t just limited to China Dota2 Pro Cup. They are also the only undefeated team at CDA-FDC Pro Championship S2. They could overtake LGD’s top seed by defeating Invictus Gaming on the 21st, which is very likely.
Legendary player Xu "BurNIng" Zhilei’s pet project has become a top tier threat in China. While B-God is officially retired from competitive play, his rivalry with LGD.Ame burns on through Monet.
