TrackDota Guide to Movistar Pro Liga Gaming Season 6

By TrackDota TeamOctober 16, 2020
Movistar Pro Liga Gaming is returning for an impressive sixth season, and this time it's with Valve's support.
Live Media, the organizer behind the event series, has been running the South American tournaments since September 2019. Thunder Predator has won four of those events, with NoPing e-sports winning Season 4.

What's at stake?

MPLG features a $24,000 USD prize pool. The most important component here is that this is the first known Valve-supported event in the current global pandemic conditions, to be followed shortly by Dota Summit 13. All eyes should be on this event for top South American Dota 2.

Teams

All eight teams competing in the event had direct invites. At the time of publication, one team's identity was still unknown.
Thunder Predator might be loosely considered the favorites here, given the organization's track record at MPGL. More importantly, Leonardo "LeoStyle-" Sifuentes is back on active status after a bit of a break. The squad had strong results when the full five played together, so we can hope for good things again.
The other team to keep your eyes on is Infamous. They placed third at the recent BTS Pro Series Season 3: Americas event. The roster has been together since April, with consistent results rising over time. They should be considered another strong choice for top placement.
Team Brasil, Unknown Team, and Havan Liberty have also been popping up in mid-through top-tier mixed-region Americas events, so anticipate some good series ahead!

Format & Schedule

The group stage for MPLG S6 begins October 17. All eight teams will complete a best-of-two round robin. The top four teams will advance to a single-elimination bracket playoff while the bottom four will be eliminated.
While the first round of the playoffs will be best-of-three series, the event will culminate with a best-of-five on November 14.
