ESL announced today that they will return with ESL One Germany Online in October.
The event will feature only Europe and CIS teams, breaking from the recent tendency of tournaments to run a different division in different regions.
The prize pool will be a whopping $400,000 USD. Qualifiers are being run in advance, starting September 19, with open qualifiers. Ultimately, four teams will advance through the closed qualifier to the main event.
The group stage of the main event will get underway beginning October 5, with playoffs scheduled to start October 23 through November 1.
ESL is going to bring us a twist on the typical format we've been enjoying of late. The group stage will be run in the Swiss format, with a pool of sixteen teams total. The Swiss format has teams with a similar record play each other in each of five rounds. Three wins will secure a spot in the playoffs.
Eight teams will advance to the playoff bracket, which will take the double-elimination format.
Eleven teams have already confirmed their direct invitation. These include:
One more team will receive a direct invitation. Who do you want to see? Perhaps Evil Geniuses?
